North Carolina DOT is preparing trucks for winter and aims to be ready by December 1

HIGH POINT, NC (WGHP) – Preparations have already started for any snow or ice this winter will bring to the Piedmont Triad, according to the NC Department of Transportation.

“During this time of year we make sure our staff are all aware of the plan the county maintenance engineer has in place to clean the roads of snow and ice,” said Brad Wall. , NCDOT Division Maintenance Engineer for Division 7 And our goal is to be ready by December 1st. This doesn’t mean that we won’t be able to respond by December 1, but our goal is to be fully ready then.

On Tuesday, NCDOT teams were working on trucks and performing tests.

Wall said this staffing was a problem for the state, especially before winter.

“Staffing has been a challenge, and we continue to do so even now, so we’ll call on whatever we can bring,” Wall said. “In some cases, I know in one county I went through their trial and they had a contact truck that they needed to supplement their staff. They lost people and couldn’t replace them.

This is one of the reasons why it is important that every driver does their part to help.

Wall put it plainly: “Very simply, if you don’t have to travel in snow and ice, I wouldn’t, and that will help us as well.”
